TENNENT'S SCOTTISH SERIES CANS

UPDATED 12th JUNE 2007

HELP ME FILL IN THE BLANKS

As I mentioned before I have referred to the Lager Lovelies book while doing much of my research in to Scottish cans in general.

In the book there are a total of 5 cans unknown, three from the Second Scottish Series and two from the Third Scottish Series. I talked at length with Charles Schofield with regards to the various Scottish Series cans, he was not able to obtain any original pictures of the full sets, but found info from brewery records as to which cans belonged to what set. It has been mentioned that the Scottish series cans may have been produced in different sets to these shown in the book.

As you can see we now have 63 cans listed which goes against the theory that there were 3 series of 20 cans.

From my own research and from talking at length with other collectors, many errors have been pointed out that go against what is shown in the Lager Lovelies book. The main one that comes across is that REAL and by  REAL  I mean a real can from a collection  or pictures as opposed to a mock-up can with a flat plate wrapped around a can as shown in the Lager Lovelies book.

A very big thanks go to Paul Randall from Edinburgh for kindly allowing me to scan his collection of Scottish Series cans which included 3 that are new to the list of cans.

You will see that I have placed new details under the thumbnail pictures of the Scottish Series cans - again I would like you to help me fill in the blanks. The lettering might be an indicator of which Metal Box factory the cans were produced at or as some people think a date indicator. Each of these theories have their merits and it would be interesting to hear from anybody that knows differently.

I have seen 28MB, MB A and MB and the lettering appears at the bottom of the can near to the seam. All 28MB are on the front and MB A appears on both front and back near to the seam, MB only appears on the back of the can.

When the lettering appears in green you can click on the thumbnail picture to see an enlarged image.
